This weekend flew faster than you can say “Deeeeetroit Basketballllllll,” because that’s pretty much what consumed it. Our first practice game is coming up next weekend, followed by two weeks of pre-season games, and finally ending October with Opening Night just around the corner.
It’s safe to say Scott and I are soaking in what we have left of our social lives outside of Pistons Entertainment. (Not much!)
Saturday night kicked off our fun-filled weekend with an event at Airtime Trampoline & Game Park. It was the first appearance of this season I was back with so many girls and members of Flight Crew, which always proves to be a good time.
We had a team outing here at the end of last season, and had just as much fun jumping on trampolines and playing dodgeball this time around. Except, the night ended with the girls owing the boys a homemade dinner for losing. Whoops!
Media Day Sunday
Sunday morning started early with a CrossFit inspired workout at home. Later on, I was to be at our arena to continue the second part of our team photoshoot for the season, and part of my photoshoot prep is to get my blood pumpin’ with a run or workout the morning of.
I love breaking that extra sweat before getting ready for the day and will be sure to share the WOD with you tomorrow.
My call time at the arena was 10:30 a.m. and all the girls arrived in different time shifts to get our hair and makeup done. By Noon I was ready to roll!
We each took turns filming a video on a green screen to display during our on-court performances, interviewing on camera (I may or may have not made a fool of myself during some of those answers and cannot wait to see that footage!), and taking a series of costume and casual shots for our website and promotional publications for the year.
I made sure to steal Scott away while he was dressed in uniform to snap a costume photo with him. Can you believe that after an entire season, we still had yet to get an official in-costume shot of the two of us together?
We finished the day at about 7:30 p.m. with rumbling bellies and both agreed that Mexican food was the best fix. After a day of shooting photos, I always reward my hard work with
more than a little indulgence!
About a month ago, Scott discovered a new restaurant located just a few miles from home. Miguel’s Cantina is a charming little Mexican joint full of culture and smiling staff.
We have only been to one of their locations twice, but have had exceptional service both times around. Two things that stick out to share with you are their made-to-order (at the table) salsas and homemade margaritas!
Scott stuck with water, but I ordered the Pomegranate Margarita and every sip was wonderful.
We were impressed when our server greeted us with a tray of salsa ingredients and asked us how we would like ours. We answered “pretty spicy” and although the flavor was great it didn’t really give the spicy kick we were looking for. Regardless, we both enjoyed seeing it made table side!
To save room for dessert (which we already agreed ahead of time on getting), we ordered the steak fajitas picado style (smothered in warm enchilada salsa and melted cheese) to split.
We each had two hefty fajitas and saved another serving for leftovers.
The reason? This guy.
Scott and I both love tres leches cake, and this was one of the best we have ever had! Not to mention it was the size of my head. I think that is the first time we left more than a bite left, but it wasn’t because we didn’t love it. Everything all around was so good!
We finally arrived home to an anxious and needy dog (Poor Roadie) and both fell asleep soon after showering him with snuggles. All in all, I have to say my weekend was pretty marvelous.
(Thanks for the link up, Katie!)
Hope you’re having a wonderful start to your week!
Question of the Day
What’s your Mexican dessert of choice:
Tres Leches Cake or Fried Ice Cream?
While I don’t condone eating many things fried, I just can’t resist fried ice cream. Especially at Mexican restaurants. (Please tell me you’ve tried it at least once!) Unable to choose between them, we asked our waitress for a suggestion between the two and she talked us into the cake. Clearly, that was a great choice but I want to go back for the ice cream!

Happy Saturday! I hope you all are having a great start to your weekend.
Today is all about photoshoot prep for me, as we have our Pistons Dancers Media Day (costume shots) tomorrow. I’m definitely not going as extreme as I did the first time around for the bathing suit shots, but I’m still being conscious about what I’m eating and doing for workouts.
I set my alarm for 7:30 a.m. this morning in hopes of getting in a long run before my spray tan, but sleeping in with Scott ended up winning that battle. He just got back from a five day trip to Paris last night! I missed him.
No run… but I’m hoping to complete some kind of circuit training workout downstairs before turning in tonight instead.
I headed over to a shopping center to pick up a few last minute accessories for my photos this morning and can’t go on with this post without sharing how awesome it is to go anywhere directly after a spray tan.
For those of you who have gotten one before, you know that it takes about six hours for it to set before you can sweat (workout) or shower. I prefer to schedule them at night so I can just go home, sleep on it, and shower in the morning but that option wasn’t in the cards this time.
So, there I was, shoe shopping around town with my blotchy, shiny, overly-bronzed face and baggy sweats. Seeing people’s reactions was great. I could tell they didn’t want to be rude, but were trying to figure out exactly what was going on there. #awkward
Oh, the joys of these beauty tricks we get ourselves into!
And that was how my day started. We have an event at a trampoline park tonight, which should be entertaining, and a photoshoot with all of our entertainment teams tomorrow. It’s a fun kind of workin’ weekend for sure!
Hearts.com – Ethical Fashion
Some of you might recall an adorable mint and gray purse I featured in a Friday Favorites post not too long ago. When not dressed like a suntanned bag lady, there are days I put myself together and hardly ever remember to share anything fashion related with you. (Whoops!)
Here is my latest casual “on my way out for an afternoon of shopping and dinner with a friend” outfit that includes the purse as well as a few new favorites I picked up the day before.
Ombre Tank: Lauren Conrad via Kohl’s
Necklace: Interlock Cross Necklace by Stella & Dot
Bracelets: Charming Charlie
Sandals: Urban Outfitters
(Can’t get enough of this rose gold arm party!)
By the way, if you are a Kohl’s shopper they are currently having a HUGE sale. I adore the LC collection and was stoked to see all of her stuff marked down at 40-60% OFF!
While browsing their website, I was instantly drawn to this item because of the color combination and studded accents. You can imagine my excitement when it arrived at my doorstep a few weeks ago! Although the design may seem limiting, I have been wearing this purse out and about with a variety of different outfits, both casual and dressy.
Hearts is a newly launched ethical fashion company I was introduced to back in May. Their mission is to embrace awareness about the products we buy and how they affect people and the planet. Everything in their line is “Designed with Purpose” and the brand carries an admirable philosophy.
Each and every Hearts product:

Not to mention, the entire line is darling and even includes pieces for men!
To kick-start your journey with Hearts, they have provided HWG readers a special discount through the end of the year! Simply enter the promo code: HOUSEWIFE30 upon your checkout to receive 30% off any regular priced items. I already have my heart set on a wishlist full of accessories!

It’s Friday! Fall is here, and I am ready to get the weekend started to get out and enjoy it. You too? We’re almost there friends!
Sometimes my weeks tend to go by faster when I keep a mental note of things I want to share with you at the end of it. This is super convenient now that I’ve created a platform for me to do so each and every week. I hope you are enjoying reading these Friday Favorites posts as much as I enjoy putting them together!
Friday Favorites #4: Week of 9/27
• Monogrammed Chevron iPhone Case
I feel like I am always looking for a new phone cover. I am usually drawn to chevron patterns and when I found the Simply Monogram Shop on Etsy I fell in love. (Note, this specific shop only makes cases for the iPhone 4/4S, 5 and Sprint Galaxy S3).
There are so many different colors, patterns and varieties, and the majority of them cost $16.99, which isn’t too bad for a personalized item.
After going back and forth on several, I finally decided on this light blue coral design with rubber sides. I often take my case off to put my phone in an arm strap when I go for long runs, so knew the soft sides would be easier to handle. I have been using this case for about a month and absolutely adore it!
• Sweet Potato Chips
I whipped up a batch of these bad boys the other day and can’t keep my hands off them.
I can’t take any type of credit for them because they’re from the grocery store.
I have mentioned this on the blog before, but Simple Truth is Kroger’s organic line. While picking up a few essentials this week, I saw these Natural Sweet Potato Chips for the first time and had to get them.
A total of seventeen chips equals one serving for only 160 calories! Match that with the fact that they are made from real sweet potatoes, and they’ve sold me.
• Hot Vinyasa Yoga
I shared my desire to get back into yoga again a few weeks ago. I think it’s safe to say I am finally there. Over the past week I have taken three classes, all of which have been the Hot Vinyasa Flow practice.
There may be a point in the class where I think it’s a bit annoying (those dang pushup hovers), but 95% of the time I am loving it! After each class, I leave feeling a sense of inner peace and calmness.
Plus, I have noticed a significant decrease in my lower back pain. I have a feeling I will be going to this class on a regular basis.
• #Hasthtag (and other shenanigans) with Jimmy Fallon + JT
I stumbled upon this video the other day, watched it, and immediately posted it on my personal Facebook page. Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake (swoon) have to be the best comedic duo ever.
It all started with the History of Rap segments on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. (Am I right here? That’s the first time I noticed them together). Since then, they have performed tons of other musical treats and skits on his show.
This one, however, was new to me and I literally can’t stop watching it.
It’s SO great!
And, for the record, I am a hashtagging fool. I don’t really “say” hashtag whatever, but I certainly use them on an every day basis. #oops #sorryimnotsorry #sexyghostforthewin
Right after I posted that video, a friend of mine brought my attention towards this article/video.
Apparently, my favorite combo created a series of NFL end zone dances and challenged all players to do one during a game. If they did, Fallon promised to counter any fines ($10K) with a donation to their charity of choice. Well, well what do ya know… Detroit Lions (woot woot!) Rookie Joseph Fauria came through. I’m so proud!
P.S. I’ve never seen the “Worm On A Leash” before. That’s a move I’ve got down and may or may not be pulling it out when the time seems appropriate.
• Feeling Okay About Eating Chocolate
Just like many of you, I hold a special place in my heart for chocolate and I have never been able to cut it out of my diet. Good news… you don’t have to!
I have known about the “it’s okay to eat chocolate, as long as it’s dark” rule for a while, but I enjoyed Brad’s post (and watching his video – kinda funny!) about why. Lots of helpful tips there!
• Roadie Snuggles
This guy. He kills me.
If there is even an ounce of space left on the couch, he will find a way to crawl up to it and lay… on whoever. Scott and I often joke that Roadie must think he is a cat for some of the poses he gets himself into. I mean, half the time his lower half is even hanging off of the couch.
Sometimes I wonder if he really thinks he is a cat, or even a small dog for that matter. Judging from his behavior (snuggling and jumping everywhere including the very top part of the couch), I would guess the answer to this question is yes. Gotta love ‘em!
Have a great Friday, everyone!

What are some of your favorite finds this week?
September 26, 2013
The chill in the air over the weekend got me pretty pumped for Fall! It’s officially here and is in full swing with all of the pumpkin, squash, and Fall inspired recipes and posts surfacing lately.
Hey, I’m not complaining. Since moving up north and getting to experience the changing of the leaves and cool (sans humidity) breeze in the air, Fall has become my favorite time of the year! Pumpkin spice lattes, trips to the cider mills, pumpkin carving, hearty soups, sweaters, bonfires, I just love everything about it.
I know this is going to be predictable, but do you know what my favorite thing about Fall is?
Pumpkin. Everything pumpkin. I discovered my love for it just a few years ago and it only seems to grow as the years go by. To kick things off this year, I decided to get back in the kitchen (finally!) and create a lightened up version of a carrot pumpkin bar I stumbled upon a while ago.
I decided to include raisins and a cream cheese “frosting” to make it more carrot cake-like. The result was drool-worthy.
Carrot Pumpkin Bars
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 1/4 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 cup stevia
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup margarine
2 large eggs
6 Tbsp. egg white liquid (equal to 2 large eggs)
1 can (15 oz.) pumpkin
1 cup shredded carrots
1/2 cup raisins (optional)
Greek Yogurt Cream Cheese Topping
1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
1/4 cup cream cheese (room temperature)
1/2 cup stevia
prep time: 20 minutes
cook time: 25-30 minutes
servings: 24 bars
1. Pre-heat oven to 350°F. Grease a 15″ x 10″ (or similar sized) pan.
2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, pumpkin spice, baking powder, and baking soda.
3. In a separate (larger) mixing bowl, beat sugar, butter, and brown sugar. Add eggs, egg white liquid, pumpkin, carrots, and raisins. Beat until everything is well blended.
4. Add flour mixture and mix well until blended. Slowly pour and spread into greased pan.
5. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until cake is baked all the way through. (Easy tester: insert a toothpick into the center and make sure it comes out clean).
6. Prepare cream cheese topping by mixing all ingredients together while cake is baking. (optional)
7. Cool in pan on wire rack, then cut into squares. Serve as is or add cream cheese topping!
While the cream cheese topping was a great addition, it wasn’t one hundred percent necessary. If you know you are going to take a few days to get through these, you might want to leave it on the side and keep it in the refrigerator.
Either way, I could barely walk passed them without stealing one every time!
Question of the Day
Are you a big pumpkin fan?
I actually used to hate it. I could barely even stand pumpkin pie. Really. The first time I really gave the flavor a try was when I worked at a breakfast place and tried their Pumpkin Pancakes. Ohhhhhh my gosh, were they the best things ever.
Since that day, I became more open to pumpkin and now feel like I can’t live without it! Funny how things change, huh?
